Chapter 190: And She Still Dares Act Like That?!

Wu Yurong deliberately walked well away. She did not want her daughter to hear the voice on the other end.

Having answered, she did not speak first. She listened.

“Where are you?” Li Ruobing asked.

“He’s gone to the bathroom. He left his phone in the living room,” Wu Yurong said in that soft, sweet voice.

If Song Xuan had not been in the living room, Wu Yurong would never have phrased it that way. At the very least she would have said “Wu Chen” rather than simply “he.”

“Hm?” Li Ruobing paused a moment before recognizing the voice and the intonation as Wu Yurong’s.

“So it’s Ms. Wu,” she said in an entirely ordinary tone, without her usual chill.

Li Ruobing respected Wu Yurong, and had always spoken to her this way.

“Yes, it’s me.” Wu Yurong sounded exactly as she always did—gentle and sweet.

“Wu Chen went to see you again first thing this morning?” Li Ruobing asked.

That was genuinely her assumption. She knew what kind of woman Wu Yurong was, so her thoughts did not run in any other direction. Besides, it was already past eight-thirty, nearly nine. The timing made sense.

“He…” Faced with the question, Wu Yurong paused.

Her gaze drifted toward the bathroom door. Then she smiled softly and sweetly.

    “No.”

That was all she could say. She had moved far enough away that Song Xuan could not hear the other end of the call, but her daughter could still hear whatever she herself said.

“No?” Li Ruobing paused again, thought, then asked, “Ms. Wu, did you go to see him?”

Even Li Ruobing was startled by the thought.

She knew Wu Chen was extraordinarily capable and remarkably good at “making friends”—but Wu Yurong was no less skilled with people.

Li Ruobing admired Wu Yurong’s methods.

She also knew that although Wu Yurong had a great many male friends, wealthy and powerful businessmen and men of influence among them, not one of them had managed to touch so much as a strand of her hair in all these years. However formidable the man, in front of Wu Yurong he had to sit nicely and behave.

Li Ruobing had long suspected that Wu Yurong was both guarded against men and inclined to toy with them.

Wu Yurong carried an instinctive hostility toward men.

So if Wu Chen could spend a single afternoon talking with her and have Wu Yurong come looking for him the next day to continue—

That would be social skill at the very summit.

“No,” Wu Yurong answered again, more briefly still.

    Li Ruobing paused once more.

If Wu Chen had not gone to see Wu Yurong, and Wu Yurong had not gone to see Wu Chen, what possibility was left?

    Li Ruobing fell silent.

    And stayed silent.

The longer she thought, the more her breathing changed.

There seemed to be no other option left except that the two of them had never parted from yesterday afternoon until this morning.

    And if that were true—

Honestly, Li Ruobing was a little stunned.

It simply… should not have gone that directly.

Never mind whether Wu Yurong had been threatened or offered some benefit. She was no young girl. Her ruthlessness and her spotless personal conduct were both famous. Threatened or tempted, there was no reason for her to… do that.

    She was Wu Yurong.

“Where are the two of you?” Li Ruobing asked, afraid she had misunderstood.

    “My home,” Wu Yurong replied.

“Ms. Wu, did you let Wu Chen stay the night?” Li Ruobing asked.

    “Yes.”

    One word again.

Perhaps she had only let him stay. Wu Yurong never allowed men to stay overnight at her home, but Wu Chen was so much younger, and he was her daughter’s senior from university…

Li Ruobing wanted to think in that direction.

Then she remembered Wu Chen’s usual style.

And Wu Yurong’s attitude right now was very strange.

She was merely listening and answering when she had to. She volunteered nothing, explained nothing, and seemed entirely unconcerned that Li Ruobing might misunderstand.

She knew perfectly well whose boyfriend Wu Chen was.

If nothing had happened, Wu Yurong would never behave like this.

Li Ruobing drew a deep breath. Her tone went cold.

“Ms. Wu, did you sleep with Wu Chen?”

    “Mm.”

A soft sound through the nose. She admitted it without the slightest hesitation.

    And still said nothing more.

In truth she was being this terse only because her daughter was in the living room.

If Song Xuan had not been there, Wu Yurong would have explained matters to Li Ruobing in far greater detail.

She had already decided not to hide it. Since Li Ruobing did not care that her man had other women, Wu Yurong might as well let her know outright. Even if conflict followed, even if their relationship soured—

Wu Yurong was not afraid of Li Ruobing.

    Li Ruobing fell silent again.

Inside her it was as though heaven and earth had collapsed and been remade, and her understanding of Wu Chen rebuilt all over again.

Did Wu Chen really have that kind of magic?

Could he really win over any woman?

Actually, that part no longer mattered. At this point, the more formidable Wu Chen proved, the happier Li Ruobing was.

The problem was that this time the woman was Wu Yurong.

In a single day he had won over the one woman who, in theory, no man could possibly win over in a single day.

Even Su Qingying had never given Li Ruobing a powerful sense of threat.

    Wu Yurong did.

Especially the way she was behaving now.

Her voice stayed gentle and sweet, but she said almost nothing, as though she had no wish to explain.

As though she could not be bothered.

A fire rose in Li Ruobing’s chest.

Did she not know who Wu Chen’s girlfriend was?

She knew he had a girlfriend and slept with him anyway—she was the other woman, and she still had the nerve to take that attitude?!

“Ms. Wu, I think you and I need to talk,” Li Ruobing said directly.

“Come over. South City,” Wu Yurong replied.

    Beep, beep, beep…

Li Ruobing hung up the moment she heard it.

While Wu Yurong had been on the phone, Song Xuan had not been idle. She went on straightening the sofa, tidying a little here and there, glancing at her mother from time to time. She noticed that Wu Yurong mostly listened and only occasionally answered.

That was how people spoke on the phone with someone they knew very well.

Song Xuan was already guessing that “Uncle” had to be some wealthy businessman she had met before.

Perhaps someone she had seen often and knew quite well.

He had to be extremely close to her mother, or her mother would not have talked at such length with someone calling his phone.

At last Wu Yurong lowered the phone.

She turned and smiled sweetly at her daughter.

“Xuanxuan, another guest will be coming in a little while…”

“Then I’m going,” Song Xuan said at once.

She disliked gatherings full of “elders.” They were restrictive, and the conversation never touched anything she cared about.

“Mom, you tidy up. Have the hourly housekeeper help you. I’m off…”

And with that, Song Xuan left.

Wu Yurong knew her daughter far too well and was not surprised in the least.

As Song Xuan hurried down the steps outside, Wu Yurong even called after her, “Drive slowly.”

    “I know,” Song Xuan answered.

    She was gone.

    Click.

    The bathroom door opened.

“Ruobing’s call?” Wu Chen asked, smiling, as he came out.

He had been listening to the sounds outside. He knew Song Xuan had left, and he knew Wu Yurong had answered his phone. Judging by her replies, only a call from Li Ruobing would have required that many careful answers.

“Yes. She should be here soon.” Wu Yurong smiled at him gently, and a great deal was contained in that smile.

Wu Chen smiled and said nothing.

He could read her state of mind exactly.

She was not planning to declare war on Li Ruobing now that everything was in the open.

    She simply was not afraid.

“I feel so uncomfortable all over. Let’s take a shower,” Wu Yurong said, walking toward him again.

    More than forty minutes later.

    The villa door opened.

The female bodyguard Chu Yan led Li Ruobing inside.

Li Ruobing wore red high heels, and her face was empty of expression.

    She had arrived.
