Chapter 469: Something’s Not Right Between My Daughter and This Young Man!

The Audi sped down the road.

Driving one-handed, Wu Chen called Su Qingying. It rang for more than ten seconds before she picked up.

    “Hello, Qingying,” he said.

“Hi, hubby. I’m in a meeting…” Su Qingying lowered her voice. “What made you call? Are you and Miss Li back from your hometown?”

“We’re back.” Wu Chen smiled. “I’m heading over to your company now. I’ll be there in about twenty minutes.”

“You’re coming to the company?” Her voice lifted a little, with the faintest note of delighted surprise.

Wu Chen had done a great deal for her. He had helped her seize power at the board meeting and helped her stand on her own. Yet he seemed never to have come to Jinfu Group just to see her.

    Huancai, he visited often enough.

It wasn’t jealousy. Given what she and Wu Chen were to each other… she would never be jealous. He could have ten thousand women and she wouldn’t mind. But his turning up unannounced to see her made her genuinely happy.

“Hubby… I have to get back to the meeting. I’ll have Qianqian go down and wait for you,” she whispered.

    “Okay,” Wu Chen said.

    They hung up.

A little over twenty minutes later.

    Jinfu Group.

Wu Chen parked in the lot outside the main entrance, got out, gave his suit jacket its habitual tug, slipped a hand into his pocket, and walked in.

    He entered the reception lobby.

Mu Qianqian was already waiting, dressed in a neat little suit, every inch the young professional. She was chatting with a receptionist, who treated her with the utmost courtesy.

Employees passing through were just as courteous. Respectful to the point of excess, even.

Mu Qianqian hadn’t even started college. She wasn’t yet twenty.

But she was more than the executive vice president’s chief assistant. She was also a super-rich heiress with an extremely powerful family behind her.

As she talked, she kept glancing toward the entrance.

The moment Wu Chen walked in, suited and polished, she straightened up and raised a hand, about to call out. Then she caught herself.

Neither “hubby” nor “big bad guy” made it out of her mouth.

“Mr. Wu, over here.” She put on a professional smile and waved him over.

Wu Chen lifted a hand in reply and walked toward her, smiling.

    “Mr. Wu.”

    “Miss Mu.”

    “Mr. Wu, this way, please.”

She looked exactly like an assistant sent down to receive an honored guest. She led Wu Chen into the high-speed elevator that ran straight to the top floor. An employee card had to be swiped before the floor could even be selected.

    The elevator rose.

Mu Qianqian stood beside him without the slightest sign of intimacy.

She was afraid of being seen. There was no one else in the elevator, but there were cameras.

“Big bad guy, what are you here for?” she asked suddenly under her breath, leaning a little toward him.

“To bully you.” Wu Chen turned his head and murmured back with a smile.

“Hmph. As if.” Her cheeks pinked slightly, and she counted on her fingers. “You’ve got Miss Li, Ms. Wu, Miss Zhuang… and Miss An to bully. Hmph…”

“A few days apart and the little girl’s learned to be jealous? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me,” Wu Chen teased softly.

“Tch. You’re impressive and all, but… I have not fallen for you.” She tilted her chin up.

They kept up the quiet bickering.

    Ding!

    Top floor.

“After you, Mr. Wu.” Mu Qianqian gestured formally, then stepped out first to lead the way.

She took him all the way into the executive vice president’s office.

Only once the door had closed behind them did anything change.

Wu Chen glanced around the empty office and walked on in at his usual pace. Mu Qianqian deliberately fell a few steps behind. Then her heels went click-click-click as she rushed at him.

    “Hey! Piggyback! Big bad guy!”

A sudden weight landed on his back. Mu Qianqian had leapt up and thrown her arms around his neck from behind.

“You really are still a kid.” Wu Chen laughed, but he carried her anyway.

He carried her all the way to the reception sofa before setting her down.

She swung around and sat. The moment he sat down beside her, she twisted around, climbed into his lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him.

    She was always like this.

Whatever came into her head, she did. And she loved to mess around.

    She was young, after all.

Still, Wu Chen had always thought highly of her potential. She had many qualities others her age lacked. Among her close friends, some smoked, some had started dating very young, and some had even had abortions.

Mu Qianqian had always partied hard too. Shopping, bars, parties, she never missed any of it. Yet she had lines of her own she wouldn’t cross.

    Until she met Wu Chen…

But that wasn’t her fault. No one escaped Wu Chen’s grasp.

Her grades had always been good.

And according to Su Qingying, she had been studying with tremendous seriousness since starting work at Jinfu Group. So much about the girl made it clear that even if she had never met Wu Chen, she would have made something of herself someday.

Of course, now that she had met him, “made something of herself” would no longer be enough to describe her future.

“Bad guy. You took Miss Li home already. Meeting the parents, that fast,” she said after they’d kissed a while.

“Next time I’ll take you,” Wu Chen said, smiling at her.

“No, no, no, no! Don’t, don’t…” She shook her head furiously.

    What they said didn’t matter.

They were really just being sweet on each other.

Mu Qianqian had always found Wu Chen enormously fun, especially lately, as she heard more and more people talking about “Mr. Wu.”

The rumors had already made “Mr. Wu” into something almost mythical.

And the more that happened, the more she enjoyed messing around with him.

There was a certain pride in it: the Mr. Wu everyone else feared spoiled her rotten. Along with a teeny bit of vanity.

A little over twenty minutes later.

    The office door opened.

Su Qingying had finally finished her meeting. Her heels clicked as she walked in. Every time Wu Chen saw her, he genuinely had the feeling that a little fairy had arrived.

Her looks were only part of it.

Her bearing truly had an ethereal air all its own.

She had been raised too well, carried herself too gracefully. Every movement, long since ingrained, made her seem as though she had descended from the heavens.

“Qianqian’s been naughty again,” was the first thing she said as she came in. She went to the little coffee table in the seating area, bent slightly to pull a tissue from the box, and stepped over.

She carefully wiped the corner of Wu Chen’s mouth.

Mu Qianqian had left a lipstick mark there.

Mu Qianqian stood too and straightened her clothes.

Once she’d wiped his mouth, Su Qingying bent and gave him a quick peck on the lips, checked again to make sure she hadn’t left a mark of her own, and tossed the tissue into the wastebasket.

“Why the sudden visit, hubby? I was thinking that if you got back today, I’d come to your place to see you.” She talked as she carried a folder over to her desk.

“I’m here to take care of something.” Wu Chen smiled.

“What is it?” She glanced back with a smile, then turned to Mu Qianqian. “Oh, Qianqian, run over to the design department and chase them on the packaging design drawings…”

She’d given Mu Qianqian an errand.

“Yes, Boss!” Mu Qianqian answered very formally. Calling Su Qingying “Boss” in front of Wu Chen was partly a joke, of course.

But she also wanted to show off a little.

She wanted Wu Chen to see what she was like at work.

The more she dealt with business, the more ambitions of her own she developed. She hoped the all-capable, endlessly fun Mr. Wu would like her even more, and someday give her even greater help in her career.

    She hurried out.

Wu Chen watched her go. Only after the door had closed again did he stand.

“Qingying, you sent Qianqian away on purpose. What are you up to?” He walked over to the desk and teased her with a smile.

Caught out, Su Qingying blushed slightly.

“Good big brother…” She hadn’t sat down yet. She stepped forward, took his hand, and pressed it to her cheek. Even her breathing grew a little heavier.

“I missed you,” she murmured, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s hum.

Her eyes were soft and shining as she looked at him.

Only Wu Chen truly understood her.

She was always extremely busy with work, especially lately. Her father, Su Ruiwen, had been taking her to meet person after person.

He was handing his network over to her as fast as he possibly could.

No one could say how long Su Ruiwen had left. He could still come to work for now, but if his illness flared up again, there was a real chance he would never leave the hospital alive.

That put enormous pressure on Su Qingying. She was busy and exhausted.

Only with Wu Chen could she truly relax.

“It’s daytime. We’re at the office. Tonight…” Wu Chen smiled and gave her cheek a gentle pinch.

Su Qingying smiled and rested her arms on his shoulders. They stood face to face, very close.

“You still haven’t told me, hubby. What did you come here to do?”

“I’m here to take care of something big…” Wu Chen had barely begun.

    Creak.

The office door swung open without warning.

“Qingying, what you said at the meeting just now…” A thin, hatchet-faced middle-aged man was already speaking as he walked in.

Su Qingying reacted very fast and dropped her arms at once.

Wu Chen reacted faster still. He took one natural step back and slipped a hand into his pocket.

The man who had walked in was none other than Su Ruiwen, Donghai’s richest man!

Su Ruiwen had started talking before the door was fully open, so as he came in he hadn’t seen his daughter’s arms around Wu Chen’s shoulders. But the two of them were still standing rather close.

More to the point, something was very wrong with Su Qingying’s face.

She was a little flushed, and the look in her eyes, her whole expression… it actually reminded Su Ruiwen of his wife as a young woman.

It was the manner of a bashful young woman, with a trace of panic in it.

    Something was off!

Something was definitely off between his daughter and this young man!

“Qingying, and this is…?” Su Ruiwen looked at Wu Chen, then turned to his daughter.
