Chapter 487: Don’t Tell Me Mr. Wu Did That Too?
by cnwebnovelsChapter 487: Don’t Tell Me Mr. Wu Did That Too?
Wu Chen had left her to improvise. Li Ruobing couldn’t fully gauge what he intended, but she knew exactly what she could tell Su Ruiwen and what she couldn’t.
And as she saw it, she could clear away, herself, the trouble that came with Wu Chen being with Su Qingying!
It was always Wu Chen doing things for her.
He was even going to destroy the Ding family for her sake!
Today, Li Ruobing meant to settle this for him!
Wu Chen had set the stage for her. Now it was up to her to perform!
“Shuangqi Real Estate? Qi Min and Qi Jun?” Su Ruiwen was momentarily lost. He couldn’t follow the turn. They’d been talking about how powerful and extraordinary Wu Chen was. Where had Shuangqi Real Estate come from?
“Yes, them.” Li Ruobing rested her fingers on her coffee cup and smiled at him, looking almost… proud?
Proud of what?
Of her man?
“What do they… have to do with Mr. Wu?” Su Ruiwen asked. It wasn’t that he couldn’t conceive of a connection. He simply wouldn’t let his mind leap straight to the least likely one.
“The Qi brothers’ arrest… Mr. Wu was involved?” he asked after a moment’s thought.
“He wasn’t involved. He did it,” Li Ruobing said with a faint smile.
“He did it?” Su Ruiwen’s voice rose and his eyes widened again. After a moment’s doubt, he said, “But wasn’t that… Second Master Tang…”
“Second Master Tang and Brother Gu were the ones who made the move,” Li Ruobing said.
Silence.
Su Ruiwen stared at her, dazed. He sorted through her words in his head, and only after several seconds said, “Miss Li, are you saying Mr. Wu had Second Master Tang and Gu Ruibo do it?”
“More or less.” Li Ruobing nodded.
Silence again!
It was beyond belief! This ought to have been staggering. Who was Wu Chen, and who was Tang Jingbin? Yet it was so far past staggering that it left Su Ruiwen strangely numb, unable to think straight!
Li Ruobing clearly had no reason to lie.
And what Wu Chen and Tang Jingbin could possibly be to each other… Su Ruiwen couldn’t imagine! He couldn’t for the life of him see why Tang Jingbin would act on Wu Chen’s behalf.
“Mr. Wu and Second Master Tang are…?” he asked.
“Friends,” Li Ruobing said. Just the one word. In truth, she didn’t really know how far things between Wu Chen and Tang Jingbin had gone.
All she knew was that Wu Chen was making big moves, and they kept getting bigger!
“Why?” Su Ruiwen asked after another two seconds. “If what you say is true, Miss Li, then… why did Mr. Wu go after Shuangqi Real Estate?”
“Because of Zhuang Xiaodie.”
“Who?”
“Zhuang Xiaodie. You wouldn’t know her, Boss Su. One of Wu Chen’s young lovers. She’s still a university student and lives in Modu. A few days ago, she got into a dispute with Qi Min’s son, Qi Chenghong, over a few things…” Li Ruobing briefly explained.
Su Ruiwen looked at her, his face set, and said nothing.
Because what she was telling him was fucking absurd!
For one woman, Wu Chen had brought the vast connections of the Tang and Gu families to bear and wiped out a business family that was one of the Xiang family’s trusted dependents?!
He’d sent tremors through Modu’s upper circles!
Rumors were everywhere!
Relations between the Xiangs and the Tangs had begun to turn tense!
If it went on, it might even end in open war between great families, each trying to crush the other!
All for one young lover? A college girl?!
Li Ruobing raised her cup again, took a leisurely sip, and even turned to glance at the view beyond the windows.
“Miss Li, are you sure? Mr. Wu went after Qi Min and Qi Jun because of this… Zhuang Xiaodie?” Su Ruiwen asked again, his face very much not right.
“It did start with Zhuang Xiaodie,” Li Ruobing said as she set down her cup. “But how my Mr. Wu arranged things after that, whether he used it to set anything else in motion along the way… for the details, you’d have to ask him, Boss Su.”
Su Ruiwen’s face changed again.
He’d caught her meaning: there were details even Li Ruobing didn’t know!
She knew only how it started and how it ended! The process itself, she’d had no part in!
Watching his expression shift, Li Ruobing paused, then smiled and went on. “Wu Chen dotes on his women. He never says anything mushy, never makes promises, but the things he does for them… unless you’ve been on the receiving end, it’s hard for an outsider to imagine.”
There seemed to be more to her words than she was saying.
They made Su Ruiwen think of his own daughter!
More than ten days ago, while he was away on business, Su Qingying had somehow, almost miraculously, won majority support at the board meeting and taken control!
And the day before that, Wu Chen had taken her away from the golf course at Tangsha.
Just yesterday, Wu Chen had sat with him for a long talk about bringing down Xu Zhenyuan, Jinfu’s second-largest shareholder.
Su Ruiwen had assumed all of it was Li Ruobing’s doing.
But now, from what she’d told him and from how she viewed Wu Chen’s other women, it suddenly hit him… it might all have been Wu Chen’s doing!
But that was impossible! A man with Wu Chen’s background couldn’t wield that kind of power!
Yet Li Ruobing had just said it: Wu Chen was extraordinary!
All of these guesses rested on one premise: that something really was going on between Wu Chen and Su Qingying!
“Is there more, Miss Li?” Su Ruiwen asked again. He steadied himself and put on a smile. “I’d very much like to hear more about how… extraordinary Mr. Wu is.”
“Plenty more.” Li Ruobing smiled lightly. “For instance… have you seen the news today, Boss Su? This afternoon’s news?”
“This afternoon? What? What happened this afternoon?” As he spoke, Su Ruiwen reached for his phone without thinking.
“Take a look first. The whole internet’s talking about it,” Li Ruobing said.
He looked down at his phone, tapped a few times, and opened Weibo.
A blockbuster entertainment story had taken the entire internet by storm, eclipsing even the long-running furor over Morning Mist and An Menglan.
It had broken at one o’clock that afternoon.
It was still snowballing, and the whole internet was arguing about it!
Number one on Weibo’s trending searches!
—Zhou Shenglong Cheats with Wang Yaoyao!
Zhou Shenglong was a superstar, one of the top actors in the entertainment world! A Best Actor winner in film and in television! The number-one male star at Hezhong Media, one of the country’s three great media conglomerates! He even counted as one of Hezhong’s senior figures in his own right, since he held a minority stake in the company!
Compared with An Menglan, the music world’s reigning “Demon Queen,” Zhou Shenglong arguably stood a notch higher in the industry. An Menglan’s popularity was unmatched, but Zhou Shenglong had more seniority, and when both stood at the very top, seniority meant higher standing.
Su Ruiwen naturally knew who Zhou Shenglong was.
Even though he hardly ever watched television or films.
An actor that much of a household name, that famous across the whole country, was hard not to know.
The internet was still erupting. Zhou Shenglong had always had a good-husband image, so once the story broke and the evidence proved solid, the outcry was every bit as fierce as when the rumors of An Menglan being the other woman first surfaced.
Luckily, with the Morning Mist and An Menglan debate raging for days, Weibo had been steadily adding server capacity.
So this time, Weibo didn’t crash.
Su Ruiwen scrolled through a few posts.
The exposé came from Peng Wei, the country’s top paparazzo, who had released photographic and video evidence. The internet was now almost one solid wall of condemnation. Judging by public opinion, Zhou Shenglong was finished. There was even news that Hezhong Media’s share price had dropped as a result.
None of it moved Su Ruiwen’s expression in the slightest.
He didn’t care about showbiz affairs. Men like him, top businessmen, the sort of people who’d come to Lu Guangnian’s wedding today, rarely cared about such things, unless they had some stake in Hezhong Media.
“This…” Su Ruiwen looked up at Li Ruobing, paused, then said, half in jest, “Don’t tell me Mr. Wu did this too? For which of his lovers?”
“An Menglan,” Li Ruobing said simply.
