    Chapter 242: Whatever You Want

He Shiqin still was not telling him everything.

She did want revenge. Since Ding Ruilong was going to find out anyway, she wanted him thoroughly disgusted. She wanted him to know beyond any doubt that he’d been cuckolded. She could even let him believe his daughter had started calling another man “Dad.”

But that was only one of her reasons for wanting Wu Chen to sleep with her.

Only one of the many reasons that had brought her to wanting it right now.

The others she would not say.

    Her motives remained tangled.

Wu Chen could tell that she was not only seeking a sense of security.

She also wanted leverage over him.

Because Wu Chen had told her he was Li Ruobing’s boyfriend. That for Li Ruobing he was willing to go to war with the whole Ding family.

So if the two of them had that kind of relationship, it would become a secret Li Ruobing could not be allowed to learn.

    Which meant leverage.

That was how an ordinary person’s mind worked. Without understanding the true nature of what lay between Wu Chen and Li Ruobing, an outsider would never even dare imagine it.

They could only read it as a normal relationship between a man and a woman.

He Shiqin meant no harm by it. She wanted the leverage for her own peace of mind.

She had no power and no influence of her own. Once she was in Donghai, whether Wu Chen would actually do what he had promised was impossible to know.

So she needed to establish some kind of relationship with him too.

He Shiqin even believed that the reason he had shown no interest despite her offering herself was most likely wariness of Li Ruobing.

Or else loyalty to her, and enough of it.

But she still believed all men in this world were the same.

“I still think it’s better if we keep a relatively straightforward cooperative relationship for now.”

Wu Chen smiled up at her.

“I don’t want to make things more complicated. Once you’re in Donghai there will still be things I need you to cooperate with me on.”

“If the relationship stays purely cooperative, you’ll be able to stay rational enough to do that.”

    Another refusal.

The more he refused, the more she wanted something to happen between them.

By now she did not even feel she would be the one losing out. She was thirty-two. She had borne a child. She was single. Wu Chen was far younger, wealthy, and handsome.

The less he wanted it, the more she did.

“As long as you and I— do that—”

She stood there staring straight at him.

“Once we’re in Donghai I’ll do everything you say. As long as you don’t hurt Xinxin, anything else is fine.”

“You want Ding Ruilong dead. I want Ding Ruilong dead. I need a free life. Our goals are the same.”

“There’s no reason for me not to cooperate with you.”

She could never have imagined how profoundly Wu Chen had affected her state of mind, step by step, over the course of this single day.

So many of her decisions felt to her like conclusions she had reached herself, after careful thought.

    But in reality—

Wu Chen suddenly uncrossed his leg and reached for the little tea table.

It was very light, a small wicker table with a pane of glass laid over the top.

One pull, and he had dragged it aside.

    Then he looked at her.

    “You’ll do what I say?”

“Of course. I don’t know how to get Ding Ruilong killed. Naturally I’ll do what you say,” she answered.

    “I mean today. Starting now.”

    Wu Chen smiled at her.

    “Today? Right now?”

She thought for a moment. “That depends what it is.”

“The thing you were just talking about.”

    Wu Chen laughed.

    She understood.

    “Whatever you want.”

    “Come here. Kneel down.”

Wu Chen raised a hand and pointed at the floor in front of him.

Ordinarily, making someone kneel was a humiliation.

But where cuckolding Ding Ruilong was concerned, that was plainly another matter.

Wu Chen sat in the chair, still smiling at her, and gave her another look of instruction.

She had to think a moment before she caught his meaning.

Then she took two steps forward and knelt directly in front of him.

    More than two hours later.

    A little past noon.

In the finely appointed executive suite, Wu Chen sat propped against the headboard with a blanket half over him, talking to Mao Rusong on the phone.

Mao Rusong had only just called, asking when he would be coming back. He knew Wu Chen had left the KTV that morning, and he wanted him to return so the two of them could talk.

He had not said what about. Only that he wanted to talk.

After all, Zhuang Xiaodie, the girl Mao Rusong had so carefully cultivated and given to Wu Chen the night before, was still resting in one of the KTV’s guest rooms.

She had been given to him.

Not merely to keep him company for a while. By the ordinary logic of it, Wu Chen was meant to take her with him.

So Wu Chen was certainly going back to the KTV.

Mao Rusong was only calling to ask when, precisely. Beyond that there was little to say.

    At the same moment—

    In the bathroom.

He Shiqin was showering and brushing her teeth at the same time. She had been brushing for a very long while.

The bathroom walls were electronically controlled privacy glass. At present the glass had not been fogged.

So when Wu Chen turned his head as he spoke, he could see her standing beneath the shower.

    Her figure really was superb.

“Mm… all right… in about an hour. Mm… good.”

Wu Chen finished the short conversation with Mao Rusong and hung up.

He threw off the blanket, got up, and headed for the bathroom. He needed a shower himself.

A little over twenty minutes later.

Wu Chen and He Shiqin walked out of the suite fully dressed.

Unlike when they had arrived, the moment they stepped into the corridor she slipped her hand through the crook of his arm and leaned slightly toward him.

    They looked extremely close.

“Don’t look at the cameras,” Wu Chen reminded her quietly, eyes ahead.

Hotel surveillance carried no audio, so they could say whatever they liked.

    Downstairs.

    They checked out at once.

Throughout the checkout, He Shiqin kept her arm through his. The receptionist noticed and gave them a knowing little smile.

She had seen this often enough. A man and a woman came in and were still so reserved while registering that they would not even hold hands.

Then they spent a few hours upstairs, and came back down entirely different people.

    All over each other.

Once they were finished, He Shiqin walked out of the lobby arm in arm with him.

Only after they had gone down the steps and left the lobby cameras behind entirely did she let go.

The two of them started back toward the café. Both their cars were parked there.

At this moment the relationship between He Shiqin and Wu Chen was a strange one.

They were neither a couple nor lovers.

And yet there was nothing they had not done.

They had not gone far, had not yet reached the café, when she stopped abruptly.

She had noticed a pharmacy at the roadside. Pharmacies were plentiful these days, especially in the big cities. They seemed to be everywhere.

“Will you go buy some medicine for me?”

She turned toward him, then pressed her lips together and blinked at him.

She had borne a child. But her life had been bent out of shape in many ways. She had never gone into a pharmacy to buy that sort of medicine herself. She did not even know which one she was supposed to take, or what it was called.

The thought of having to ask—

    was embarrassing all by itself.

    “Wait here.”

Wu Chen knew which medicine she meant, and wasted no words on it.

He went into the pharmacy alone and came out again in under two minutes.

He handed her a bag with Jinyuting inside, then smiled.

“Be careful. Don’t let Xinxin see the box. It would be hard to explain.”

    He Shiqin nodded.

They walked back to the café without saying much more. Everything that needed saying had been settled upstairs.

They got into their own cars and left.

He Shiqin was going home to tell He Xinxin about Donghai. They would leave tomorrow.

Wu Chen was heading back to Golden Tycoon KTV.

A little over half an hour later.

Wu Chen returned to Golden Tycoon KTV. In the sixth-floor office he met with Mao Rusong. They had spoken by phone and agreed to talk.

Mao Rusong wasted no words either. Wu Chen had barely sat down before he produced a prepared equity transfer agreement and passed it over for him to look through.

“Mr. Wu, have a look. If you think it’s all fine, just sign it. Leave the rest to me.”

    Mao Rusong was all smiles.

Wu Chen picked up the agreement.

He had barely flipped it open before one eyebrow rose.

Mao Rusong wanted to give him money.

A very large amount of money.
