Chapter 294: What Did You Do to Him?

Wu Chen had seen Ding Ruilong’s laptop many times during the thousand-year loop and had gone through it many times as well. He knew very clearly what was on it.

That said, knowing was one thing. No matter how bored Wu Chen had been, he had never had any reason to memorize all of Ding Ruilong’s business materials word for word. He had not even read every last one of them.

He only knew the general picture.

Besides, between July 7 and today, Ding Ruilong’s laptop was certain to have accumulated new business materials and records of recent operations.

Those were all extremely valuable to Wu Chen.

And that was without even mentioning the dirty secrets and criminal evidence that could never stand the light of day.

Wu Chen took out the laptop.

    Turned it on.

    Entered the login password directly.

    The desktop appeared.

Then Wu Chen went straight to the drawer beneath the cabinet and searched it.

Sure enough, he immediately found a phone charger.

    It was Ding Ruilong’s.

The reason it was in a bedroom drawer at the hotel was naturally that Ding’s people, while unpacking his luggage, had placed it there according to his habits.

    The charger’s connector was universal.

Wu Chen unplugged the charging block.

He connected one end of the cable to the computer by USB and the other to his own phone.

Wu Chen’s phone had 128 gigabytes of storage, with roughly sixty gigabytes currently free. He did not need anywhere near that much.

All he wanted were selected business materials and incriminating evidence.

He began transferring data to his phone.

Some specific folders and compressed archives required passwords.

Wu Chen knew every one of them.

    More than ten minutes later.

Wu Chen had reviewed and transferred everything he wanted. After another series of operations, he used hacking techniques to erase every trace of his activity at the system level.

    He shut down the computer.

    Put the charger cable back…

After restoring everything, Wu Chen paused before closing the metal case.

He looked at Ding Ruilong’s handgun inside the case, then picked it up and checked it.

    Five minutes later.

Wu Chen walked out of Room 616.

Before leaving the room, while standing on the carpet by the doorway, he did not forget to remove his shoe covers and gloves. He pushed the door handle with his sleeve.

    No traces left behind.

    Wu Chen was a professional.

During the thousand-year loop, infiltration might well have been the thing he had done most often.

He could be called extremely professional at it.

    Done.

He went downstairs, left the hotel, crossed the alley, and soon returned to his car.

    First, he would drive home.

Half an hour later, Wu Chen drove the Lamborghini back to Villa No. 36 at Zunrong Donghai Huafu.

By this time, Li Ruobing had naturally already gone to work.

When Wu Chen entered, Zhuang Xiaodie, Guo Qiqi, and Tang Xinbao were all in the living room.

The three of them were actually playing cards, with paper strips stuck to their faces. Who knew whose idea that had been.

“You keep playing. I have something to do.” Wu Chen greeted them and gestured for them to continue before hurrying upstairs.

    Second floor.

    Study.

Wu Chen turned on the computer and imported all the data from his phone. Only then did he begin carefully going through and organizing it.

It took a full half hour before he had everything completely sorted into different compressed archives.

The reason he needed to organize it was that the material meant nothing to Wu Chen personally.

Anything already in his memory, he already knew. Whether he possessed physical copies made no difference to him.

These files and data only became meaningful—or rather, valuable—once they were placed in other people’s hands.

Different people would receive different material.

That was why it had to be sorted.

Before he knew it, it was already 2:30 p.m.

Once everything was ready, Wu Chen opened his email, manually typed in an email address, and sent over one compressed archive.

Then he picked up his phone and dialed a number.

    Beep… beep…

About six or seven seconds later, the call connected.

“Little Wu, is there an emergency?” It was Li Maoren.

He knew Wu Chen would not casually call him first, so the first thing he asked was whether something urgent had happened.

“Uncle, I just sent a file to your private email. Take a look…” Wu Chen said.

“A file? What file? Hold on…” Li Maoren said.

The phone seemed to move away from him, and Wu Chen could hear him speaking to someone else.

“Xiao Sun, notify them that the meeting is postponed…”

Then came the sound of footsteps.

    Soon after, a chair scraped.

“Give me a moment to look…” Li Maoren said into the phone again.

Then Wu Chen heard the tapping of a keyboard.

    Three minutes later.

“…Where did you get this, Little Wu? These photos, and these videos…” Li Maoren sounded shocked.

When he had first begun looking through the files Wu Chen sent, he had not understood what they were. There were electronic copies of nominee-shareholding contracts and photographs, including photos of people badly injured and covered in blood.

It was not until he opened a blurry video that he realized who the material concerned.

The shaky, indistinct footage showed a man and a woman who had been beaten terribly, their bodies covered in blood. Only then did they kneel and kowtow in apology, swearing and promising something.

    Then…

A man’s voice spoke in the background, warning them.

    It was Ding Ruilong’s voice.

Li Maoren had only watched the beginning.

The file package Wu Chen sent was enormous and contained a vast amount of material. He had only just started going through it. He had not yet reached the truly damning material—the content that could properly be called dirt, or evidence.

But he did not need to keep looking to understand what kind of file this was.

“It’s from Ding Ruilong’s laptop,” Wu Chen said into the phone.

“His… laptop? You… how did you get it? Did you go to Nanguang?” Li Maoren was first stunned, then shocked, before immediately realizing that made no sense. “But you were still in Donghai last night. You…”

“Ding Ruilong came to Donghai. His plane landed at eleven thirty this morning…” Wu Chen said.

“He’s in Donghai?!” Li Maoren’s voice rose.

He had received no news at all.

Logically, if Ding Ruilong came to Donghai, his son Li Ruotai would certainly know and would tell him.

“Yes. He came secretly. He told Ruobing on the phone that he’d arrive tomorrow, but he actually arrived today,” Wu Chen said with a smile.

    “Eleven thirty…” Li Maoren murmured.

Then his tone changed again, because he checked the time.

    It was only 2:30 p.m.

In other words, Ding Ruilong had been in Donghai for only three hours.

And Wu Chen had already obtained the data from his computer?

    That fast?

Ding Ruilong would certainly have brought plenty of bodyguards to Donghai. In such a short time, there would hardly even have been enough time to kidnap him.

What the hell had Wu Chen done?

“Little Wu, what did you do to him?! Didn’t we agree he can’t die in Donghai?” Li Maoren asked, his mind instantly filling with terrible possibilities.

If it had been anyone else, he would not have thought that way.

An ordinary person could not do anything to Ding Ruilong.

But Wu Chen was no ordinary person.

“Uncle, what you’re imagining didn’t happen.” Wu Chen laughed. “I haven’t even met him. He’s probably still eating right now…”

“Then how did you… get it?” Li Maoren asked again.

“It’s complicated,” Wu Chen said, plainly unwilling to explain.

    Li Maoren was genuinely uneasy.

    This was too damn frightening.

Given Li Maoren’s status, Ding Ruilong was only a junior. Li Maoren naturally was not afraid of him.

But the plan had already been laid out, and contact among all sides was underway.

If Ding Ruilong suddenly died now, the Dong family would lose its grounds for revenge. The opportunity for the Li and Dong families to join forces would disappear, and the plan to strike at the Wei family would also suffer badly.

The entire plan would be affected.

    It might even be ruined.

And dividing up the Ding family’s assets would be out of the question.

So Ding Ruilong could not die now.

Above all, he could not die in Donghai.

“Little Wu, listen to your uncle for once. Don’t make a move yet. Ding Ruilong can’t die in Donghai. Do whatever else you want, but he can’t die…” Li Maoren was almost pleading with him now.

He was genuinely afraid that if Wu Chen got angry at some point, he might simply kill Ding Ruilong outright.

Li Maoren believed Wu Chen was capable of it.

    “Uncle, I said I wouldn’t, so I won’t. Don’t worry.” Wu Chen smiled.

“How about this, Little Wu… about that earlier incident, when Bingbing was almost hurt—the Ding family has already provided compensation. I’ll transfer all of it to you now. Cool off a little…” Li Maoren had gone so far as to tell him to cool off.

“Compensation?” Wu Chen laughed. “How much?”
