Chapter 105: Just Watch the Show Tomorrow

Li Ruobing couldn’t work it out. She hadn’t been able to work it out from the start. Wu Chen had dealt with several of Jinfu Group’s directors with almost uncanny speed, and she still couldn’t see how those few men alone could accomplish anything.
Wu Chen had said earlier that he wouldn’t talk to all of them, only a portion.
That must be the whole of it.
“You don’t understand Jinfu Group, and you don’t understand the Su family, so… why not simply wait for the result?” Wu Chen slanted a look at her. “Some things are genuinely complicated to explain, and you’re an outsider, so you won’t follow it. If you don’t believe me, ask Qingying… she ought to understand more than you do by now.”
Li Ruobing blinked, then turned to Su Qingying.
“It is useful, certainly…” Su Qingying said, hesitating. She glanced at Li Ruobing, then back at Wu Chen. “But there are still parts I can’t work out. It’s just…”
“All right, all right. Qingying, you’re such a good child.” Wu Chen smiled helplessly.
Wu Chen was twenty-two and Su Qingying twenty-seven, five years his senior, and he called her a good child.
Su Qingying had missed his meaning again.
“Someone in a superior position has to learn to keep things in her heart.” Wu Chen looked out at the street and its passing traffic. “Whether you understand or not, there’s no need to show it outright—least of all to someone with no stake in the matter.”
“Qingying, if you’d pretended just now to understand and then deliberately refused to say anything… our dear Miss Li Ruobing would have thought a great deal more of you. She’d have been curious enough to burst. She’d have kept asking you, and the more you held back, the worse she’d feel. And then she would have taken the initiative to build a relationship with you…”
Su Qingying fell into thought. She could feel that Wu Chen was teaching her something.
Li Ruobing’s expression shifted. She drew a deep breath.
Angered by him again.
In that moment she felt, with perfect clarity, exactly what it meant to say the human heart is treacherous.
Too wicked.
“Wu Chen, is this fun for you?” she asked, cutting a look at him.
“It’s fun. Especially fun.” Wu Chen slanted a look back and smiled. Then he said, “All right. That’s enough for today. Time to go home and sleep… tomorrow, we just watch the show.” His voice eased, and he turned to her. “Ah—that’s right. There are still a few things I need to explain to Qingying. Would it be convenient for me to stay at your place tonight?”
“Inconvenient!” Li Ruobing answered, cold and flat.
And in the very next second she reached back and hooked her hand through his arm.
Her words and her actions had nothing to do with each other.
Li Ruobing truly had no choice. She could hardly let Wu Chen take Su Qingying away. If Madam Su found out, it was over.
So Su Qingying had to stay with Wu Chen, and stay with Li Ruobing as well.
Which left only Li Ruobing’s house.
And because they were standing on a public street, the reason she linked arms with him was of course that the two of them were the couple all of Donghai’s business circles knew about. The performance had to continue, and to run it well they had to mind it every moment.
Into the cars.
To Li Ruobing’s house.
It was late, and with few cars on the road they could move fairly quickly.
A little over half an hour later they arrived.
Jinhui Manor, South City High-Tech Zone, Donghai City.
It was a villa community a good distance from the city center. Li Ruobing had bought here because it was close to the South City CBD—only a dozen-odd minutes by car—which made the commute easy.
She owned three villas in Jinhui Manor, numbered 25, 26, and 27.
The three stood side by side.
She could hardly live in all of them herself, of course. She lived in Villa No. 26. Nos. 25 and 27 had been bought for her bodyguards.
She had a great many bodyguards.
Li Ruobing was under bodyguard protection twenty-four hours a day. Even at…
