Chapter 468: Go Take Care of Something Big

Everyone was watching Li Ruobing. Wu Jiao and Chen Xue both looked
startled, Chen Xue most of all, after seeing how worked up her father
    had gotten defending himself.

    The call connected quickly.

“Hello, Eldest Miss.” The voice of Wang Xiangming, director of Huancai
No. 2 Factory, came over the line. As one of the “old hands” who had
come over with the Li family, he was more used to calling her Eldest
    Miss.

“Two this afternoon. I’ll be waiting in my office. Get your ass over
    here!” Li Ruobing said coldly.

“E-Eldest Miss… yes, of course!” Wang Xiangming was so frightened he
    started stammering.

He might be an old retainer of the Li family who had even driven for Li
Maoren in his younger days, but Li Ruobing’s anger terrified him.

At worst, it might even cost him his life.

She was more frightening than Li Ruotai.

She was the kind of woman even her own family could do nothing about.
Third generation she might be, but neither her father nor her uncles,
nor even the Old Master himself, could rein her in.

Wang Xiangming considered himself utterly loyal to her, yet he had no
    idea what had happened.

“And Bao Yuquan. Tell him to get his ass over here too,” Li Ruobing
    added.

“Yes, yes, Eldest Miss,” Wang Xiangming said again and again.

“One more thing. Shengye Chemical will be coming to the factory this
afternoon. Make the arrangements and resume the partnership.”

    “Shengye…” Wang Xiangming paused.

“Is there a problem?” Li Ruobing asked.

“N-no problem!” he said quickly. She’d opened the call in a fury. How
could he dare say there was a problem? He just couldn’t place Shengye
    Chemical right away.

The name meant nothing to him.

Donghai had only so many large chemical plants, and Wang Xiangming knew
them all. Small ones, there were far too many.

    Li Ruobing hung up.

“Don’t worry, Boss Chen.” She looked at Chen Jinye. “I’ll deal with
    this. We’ll keep working together.”

“Ah… good… that’s good.” Chen Jinye’s expression was very odd. He
agreed, but seemed almost too nervous to speak.

Wu Chen glanced at Li Ruobing with a smile and reached over to give her
    hand a light tug.

Without thinking, she turned her palm up and laced her fingers through
    his.

She looked at him and suddenly realized what was wrong. She hadn’t
switched gears. She’d come straight off that furious call, and when she
spoke to Chen Jinye, she’d still sounded…

    Terrifying.

“Boss Chen, you should relax. You seem very tense,” she said, smiling
    naturally.

The icy atmosphere shattered at once.

“Ah, hahaha, yes… ah! Hahaha…” Chen Jinye came back to himself, laughed,
slapped his thigh, and was instantly excited all over again.

“Thank you, Boss Li. Thank you for trusting me!” He even stepped forward
    to shake her hand.

He thanked her for trusting him, but he knew perfectly well that the
    person she trusted wasn’t him.

    It was Wu Chen.

The room was easy and warm again.

Chen Jinye was positively glowing. His factory had been struggling
lately, and business was hard. Signing with Huancai again would mean far
more than just getting the factory back on its feet.

Two years ago, when Huancai Fashion’s No. 2 Factory had just been built,
Huancai was still a niche brand with very little name recognition.

In the two years since, it had grown at a ferocious pace, and its demand
for cosmetic raw materials was in another league entirely.

Chen Jinye was already starting to worry whether his factory would have
    the capacity.

“Hahaha, I’ve long heard Boss Li is one of Donghai’s famous strong
women, quick and decisive…” He started flattering her again.

Before anyone noticed, it was eleven.

    Zhang Xiujuan had started cooking.

“Well… no, I have to go.” Chen Jinye suddenly stood to leave.

“Go where? Lunch is already on the stove, and you’re the one who bought
the groceries. Old Chen, where are you off to?” Wu Dahai asked.

“Lunch… my daughter’s still here, isn’t she? Let her stay and hang out
with Jiaojiao. I’ve got to get back to the factory…”

    “What for?”

“I have to get the paperwork ready! Hahahaha! I’m going to Boss Li’s
factory this afternoon. I’ve got to prepare…”

It was serious business, so Wu Dahai couldn’t very well insist he stay.

“All right, then… Boss Li, I’ll be off…” Chen Jinye shook Li Ruobing’s
hand again and made a point of saying goodbye to her.

Wu Dahai saw him to the door.

    An hour later.

Wu Chen and Li Ruobing had finished lunch as well. It was a simple meal.
    Not even Wu Dahai drank.

    “Dad, Mom, we’re off.”

“Leaving already… When will you be back?”

“It’s so close. We can come back whenever. Dad, Mom, if you’ve got
nothing to do, come into the city and have some fun…”

There was none of the sadness of family members leaving home.

They weren’t going far, and Wu Chen had last been home only a month ago.
Because Li Ruobing was there, Wu Dahai and Zhang Xiujuan wanted to see
them off, walk them downstairs at least, but Wu Chen wouldn’t let them.

The two of them went down.

    Got into the car.

Wu Chen drove, Li Ruobing took the passenger seat, and they set off.

“Drive carefully!” Wu Dahai called down, leaning out of the balcony
    window upstairs.

Wu Chen lowered his window and waved up at his father.

    They headed back.

A little over twenty minutes later.

On the national highway into central Donghai.

“…So this isn’t the first time Bao Yuquan has pulled something like
this. He’s embezzled money too?” Li Ruobing was asking.

“Right.” Wu Chen nodded, eyes on the road.

    “And Wang Xiangming?” she asked.

“Wang Xiangming got a cut of some of what Bao Yuquan skimmed. But… the
two of them actually aren’t as close as people think. Bao Yuquan is
older and has more seniority, but you made Wang Xiangming director…”

“Wang Xiangming is more capable,” Li Ruobing cut in.

“He is. But Bao Yuquan resents it. He’s always thinking about how to
bring Wang Xiangming down and take the director’s job for himself…” Wu
Chen said with a faint smile.

They talked about Huancai No. 2 Factory for most of the drive. Mostly
    she asked, and he answered.

“So what do you think… I should do with them?” Li Ruobing asked once
    more.

“You’re the boss. You decide.” Wu Chen turned and smiled at her.

Her business ability was beyond question. She knew how to run a company,
and Huancai Fashion as a whole was in excellent health.

But any company of real size had its problems, and Huancai was no
    exception.

Wu Chen figured that if someone with Li Ruobing’s abilities couldn’t
handle a minor matter like this, she might as well give up running a
    company.

    Around one in the afternoon.

    Donghai CBD Tower 7.

In the underground garage, Wu Chen parked the Audi. He and Li Ruobing
got out together. She was going upstairs to get back to work, but he had
no intention of going with her. Nothing up there needed him.

    “Heading home?” Li Ruobing asked.

“No. I’m going to see someone,” Wu Chen said.

“Who? Wu Yurong?” Her eyes narrowed.

“Ha.” Wu Chen laughed. She really had fixed her sights on Wu Yurong.
“Not Wu Yurong. I’m going to see Qingying.”

“Qingying?” Li Ruobing’s expression turned subtle. She stepped close,
hooked both arms around his neck, and leaned in. “My dear hubby,
Qingying only said yesterday that she wants a baby. Are you really in
such a hurry to give her one?”

“In broad daylight? Am I that kind of person?” Wu Chen said with a
    smile.

“Aren’t you?” She laughed, challenging him.

“I’m really not. I’m going to take care of something big. I just happen
to have time today.” He smiled, paused, then added, “Oh, right. If
anyone asks, just say… you sent me to deliver some documents to
    Qingying.”

Li Ruobing paused, turning that over.

    Who would ask?

    And something big?

“My dear hubby, what kind of… scheme are you running this time?” she
asked in an affected tone, smiling.

“I’m a good person,” Wu Chen said with a smile.

“Hmph!” She gave a soft snort.

She couldn’t be bothered to ask any more.

She kissed him twice, right there in the garage. Someone might see. She
didn’t care. Why should she be afraid of being seen kissing her own man?

“All right, hubby. Good luck.” She let him go and straightened his
    collar.

Then she walked off, cool and unhurried.

    Li Ruobing went upstairs.

Wu Chen got back into the car, drove out of the garage, and headed for
    the Jinfu Jewelry headquarters building.

At this hour, Su Qingying should be at work.

    And not only Su Qingying.

Her father, Su Ruiwen, Donghai’s richest man, was there too!
