    Chapter 220: Why Him?!

    Wu Yurong reacted quickly.

The instant the door opened, she released Wu Chen and sat upright.

    But she did not rush.

She simply let go of Wu Chen and sat upright naturally.

So Gu Ruibo still saw everything clearly.

He had not only seen Wu Yurong embracing Wu Chen and whispering into his ear.

From where he stood, he could also see Wu Chen’s hand resting on Wu Yurong’s thigh.

Only after Gu opened the door and spoke did Wu Chen naturally move his hand away.

Gu Ruibo’s voice vanished as though he had choked on it.

    His entire expression froze.

    Impossible.

    Had he imagined it?

Gu Ruibo had not even reached the restroom yet.

He had stepped out of the private room and made a call in the corridor. Something had come up, so he turned back to report it.

And then he saw something he absolutely should not have seen.

After sitting upright, Wu Yurong casually smoothed her hair.

Still wearing a gentle smile, without the slightest hint of panic, she looked toward the doorway.

    “Boss Gu, what is it?”

“Ah… ah…” Gu Ruibo took a moment to recover.

Then he said naturally, “Nothing. I just called Old Chen and the others. The materials still need to be organized, so they may arrive a little later…”

Even as he spoke, his eyes kept moving between Wu Yurong and Wu Chen.

Of course Gu Ruibo understood social etiquette.

Even if he accidentally stumbled across something shocking, he knew how to pretend that nothing had happened.

“No rush. It’s fine,” Wu Chen said.

“Ah… then… why don’t we head out first? There’s no point waiting here. We can go to the restaurant and order the food…” Gu Ruibo tried his best to maintain his composure.

Even so, a trace of awkwardness showed through.

His gaze kept darting between the two of them.

    “Sure.” Wu Chen nodded.

Wu Chen and Wu Yurong both stood and headed toward the door.

Gu Ruibo stepped aside into the corridor to make room.

Wu Yurong had brought quite a few bodyguards and assistants with her to Modu.

But the only one who had accompanied her upstairs was her female bodyguard, Chu Yan.

Chu Yan had not entered the private room.

She had been waiting in the corridor the entire time.

Seeing her boss come out, she quickly walked over.

The group headed toward the elevators.

“I’m going to use the restroom. Mr. Wu, you two can head down first…” Gu Ruibo said.

He gestured in the direction of the restroom and hurried away.

About a minute later, Gu Ruibo returned.

The moment he stepped into the corridor, he saw Wu Chen, Wu Yurong, and Chu Yan still standing by the elevators.

They had already summoned an elevator, but had not gone down.

    They were waiting for him.

    Gu Ruibo quickened his pace.

The group entered the elevator together.

    The doors slid shut.

As the elevator descended, an oddly awkward silence filled the space.

    Someone should have said something.

As the host, Gu Ruibo should not have allowed the conversation to die.

But he simply had no heart for small talk.

His thoughts were in complete disarray.

Even inside the elevator, he kept stealing glances at Wu Chen and Wu Yurong, whether consciously or not.

He still could not believe it.

    How was that possible?

How could Wu Yurong possibly have that sort of relationship with Wu Chen?

So many tycoons worth tens of billions had failed to win her.

    How had Wu Chen…

actually managed to win her over?

Gu Ruibo sank into profound self-doubt.

The more he thought about it, the more he wondered whether he had somehow misinterpreted what he saw.

    But no.

It had been far too obvious.

“Mr. Wu…” Gu Ruibo suddenly seemed to notice something.

His expression changed abruptly, and he blurted out the words before he could stop himself.

“Hm? What is it?” Wu Chen turned toward him with a smile.

“Here…” Gu Ruibo gestured with one hand.

He pointed to the corner of Wu Chen’s mouth, then to the same place on his own face to indicate the location.

“There’s… something there. It looks like something rubbed off on you.”

    He was not a fool.

Of course he knew what it was.

He simply could not say it outright.

    A faint lipstick mark.

    Only a trace.

Wu Yurong had kissed Wu Chen lightly in the private room earlier.

The kiss had not left an obvious mark. No one would notice it without looking carefully.

But if someone looked closely, they could still spot it.

Gu Ruibo was certain the mark had not been there before.

It had appeared during the brief time he was out of the room.

    Who had kissed Wu Chen?

    Obviously Wu Yurong.

    Even the lipstick color matched.

Gu Ruibo fell into another spiral of self-doubt.

    He was utterly bewildered.

    He could not believe it.

At one banquet, Gu Ruibo had personally watched a figure powerful enough to stand on equal footing with his own father practically fawn over Wu Yurong.

The man was normally crude and rough.

Yet in front of Wu Yurong, he had behaved like the perfect gentleman, all smiles and polished courtesy.

Gu Ruibo had also heard powerful figures discuss Wu Yurong in private.

They had nothing but praise for her.

No one spoke badly of her.

    They said she was formidable.

    In business.

    In dealing with people.

    In every respect.

Wu Yurong was not merely a peerless beauty.

She was also a business prodigy.

Gu Ruibo had even once heard an immensely powerful figure from his father’s generation declare that if Wu Yurong agreed to marry him, he would divorce his wife immediately.

The man had been completely captivated by her.

    Yet none of it mattered.

No matter who the man was.

No matter what he was willing to do for Wu Yurong.

    It never worked.

Wu Yurong never allowed any of them to have her.

And somehow, she still managed not to offend them.

That was how it had always been.

She was a woman whose social skill was so formidable it was almost frightening.

So how had she ended up…

    with twenty-two-year-old Wu Chen?

Gu Ruibo certainly did not think Wu Yurong was simply chasing a younger man.

Given what he knew of her, he believed she was more than a match for any man in the world.

After Gu Ruibo pointed it out, Wu Chen raised a hand and wiped the corner of his mouth.

    He looked at his finger.

    A little red.

    “A tissue…” Wu Yurong said.

She took one from her handbag and offered it to him.

Wu Chen accepted it and wiped the corner of his mouth, then his finger.

But the mark did not seem to come completely clean.

    Wu Yurong noticed.

She simply took the tissue back from his hand, reached up, and carefully wiped the corner of his mouth herself.

“Anything left?” Wu Chen turned toward her, letting her inspect him.

“All clean. Nothing left.” Wu Yurong smiled gently.

    Her voice was sweet.

    Gu Ruibo remained stunned.

And continued doubting his own senses.

It felt almost like a dream.

    Completely unreal.

The more a person knew about Wu Yurong, the more unreal it seemed.

Just how extraordinary did Wu Chen have to be?

    Why him?!

Gu Ruibo was actually beginning to believe Li Ruotai now.

Wu Chen truly could be described as terrifying.

Any man capable of winning over Wu Yurong had to be extraordinary.

    Unique.

    Terrifying.

    More than twenty minutes later.

The group arrived at a Chinese restaurant called Yubao Pavilion.

Even in an international metropolis like Modu, it ranked among the top three Cantonese restaurants.

    They went upstairs.

A private room on the third floor had already been reserved on the way over.

The group reached the third floor and began walking down the corridor toward it.

    Ring, ring…

    Wu Chen’s phone suddenly rang.

    Everyone paused.

Wu Chen took it out and checked the screen.

    Li Ruobing.

    He answered.

    “Hello, Ruobing.”

It was nothing more than Wu Chen naturally addressing her by name.

Yet that single word made Gu Ruibo tense.

He had spent the entire drive analyzing what he had seen.

In the end, he had concluded that Wu Chen and Wu Yurong definitely shared an intimate relationship.

But in public, the two displayed no signs of intimacy.

So they were probably keeping it secret.

At the very least, they had to be hiding it from Li Ruobing.

That was why Gu Ruibo grew nervous.

If Li Ruobing discovered the truth about Wu Chen and Wu Yurong…

Given Li Ruobing’s personality, Gu Ruibo felt that not only would the two women go to war—

the business arrangement they had just discussed might be ruined as well.

    “Still busy?” Li Ruobing asked.

“You don’t plan to tell me what you’re doing in Modu? Even A-Tai knows, but you won’t tell me?”

“I’m still busy. I’ll tell you later,” Wu Chen replied with a smile.

“It’s already this late… past seven. What could you still be busy with? A woman?” Li Ruobing asked, a faint teasing note in her voice.

“Is that Miss Li?” Wu Yurong suddenly asked Wu Chen softly from beside him.

    Li Ruobing went completely silent.

    Gu Ruibo’s eyes widened.

His heart practically leapt into his throat as he stared at Wu Yurong in disbelief.

You know it’s Li Ruobing, and you still spoke up?

Are you afraid she might not find out?!
