    Chapter 92: An Unsuccessful Attempt

Meet Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina Edwards at Gargas? Klein froze for a second and nearly frowned.

To him, this was not unacceptable. On the contrary, he could take the opportunity to have a discussion, ask in person about trivial details that were difficult to explain in a letter, and perhaps obtain inspiration from it, accumulating intelligence for his later advancement and future acquisition of High-Sequence potion formulas.

One more friend, one more channel… Klein silently recited that sentence in his heart. He pulled out a heavy gold coin and, right in front of Blazing Danitz, divined whether this trip would be very dangerous.

The shining gold coin rose, flipped, and fell back into Klein’s palm with the number side facing upward.

This was a negative result, indicating that Klein and Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina’s meeting at Gargas Harbor would not be very dangerous.

Klein lifted his gaze and looked at Danitz. His voice was flat as he said, “Alright.”

“On behalf of the captain, I thank you for accepting the invitation.” Danitz quietly breathed a sigh of relief. His smile lifted at the corners of his eyes and relaxed his brows.

Klein glanced at the wall clock and said, “I will use the washroom first.”

Use the washroom first? Does that mean we will go out afterward, and he will use his identity to help me buy ship tickets? Danitz’s gaze subconsciously followed Gehrman Sparrow’s figure. Keenly, he tasted the unspoken meaning behind the words.

After confirming it above the gray fog with pendulum divination, Klein washed his hands, left the washroom, and said to Danitz, “Out.”

    “Me?” Danitz pointed at himself.

Klein put on his coat while nodding.

“Actually, there is no need, right? You can directly find Elland and have him help get two tickets…” Danitz offered his sincere opinion.

Klein swept him with an icy glance and said nothing. He put on his top hat, opened the door, and left.

Danitz shuddered and swallowed back his second suggestion: buying fake identification, then relying on Gehrman Sparrow’s ability to change appearance and build to obtain two tickets through regular channels.

He wrapped his scarf again, pressed down his flat cap, and quickly followed Gehrman Sparrow.

Nearly twenty minutes later, Klein pointed toward the lively noise coming from diagonally ahead and said, “This is the place?”

It was precisely the Seaweed Bar where Danitz had recently failed to buy a black-market ticket.

“Yes…” Danitz had not expected them to circle back here and was momentarily stunned.

Along the way, he had already roughly described what had happened during his time out, so he did not understand why Gehrman Sparrow wanted to return.

As thoughts spun rapidly, he suddenly produced a guess and blurted out, “You—are you thinking of helping me get revenge?”

This fellow may be insane, but as a friend, he is actually quite decent. That could be seen from how he risked danger entering Bansy Harbor for Elland and the others… Danitz sincerely sighed inwardly.

Klein glanced at him without saying a word and stepped into the Seaweed Bar.

“Actually, there is no need…” Danitz followed behind, trying to persuade him, though not very firmly.

As far as he himself was concerned, if he were not afraid of making too much noise, pouring cement over that gang of robbers and sinking them to the bottom of the sea would be simply wonderful.

Inside the bar, the atmosphere was loud and lively. Distinctively local music echoed through the place, creating a somewhat psychedelic sensation.

Danitz carefully looked around, searching for the group who had tried to rob him and for the well-known pirate Blue Eyes Meath and his people.

“That is Deniel,” Danitz casually introduced the black-market merchant.

What a pity. It is too chaotic here. I do not even know if those fellows are still around… he thought with regret.

Klein followed his gaze and stroked Creeping Hunger on his left hand with his right.

He turned his head, looked at Danitz, and said with a normal expression, “Take off the scarf.”

His tone was like he was ordering Danitz to buy a glass of beer.

Ah? Danitz froze there, suspecting that he had misheard.

Klein slowly pulled the corners of his mouth apart.

“Take off the scarf. Do not make me repeat it a third time.”

“Why…” Danitz’s words were blocked back by that cold, insane gaze.

Both blank and confused, he removed the scarf. For some reason, he felt as though everyone around him was sizing him up, as though they had all recognized him as the great pirate with a bounty of 5,500 pounds—Blazing Danitz.

Klein maintained a smile hiding madness and continued ordering, “Take off your hat.

    “Go buy the tickets.”

In that instant, Danitz felt as though he had been struck by lightning and almost jumped up.

“This way, I will be recognized…” Under Gehrman Sparrow’s gaze, his voice grew lower and lower.

By this point, he had already understood what Gehrman Sparrow wanted to do.

He wants to use me, worth 5,500 pounds, as bait to fish out those greedy pirates or the powerhouses behind the gangs! Dogshit! How did I just now think that he was quite decent as a friend? No, how could I ever think he was my friend at all? This son of a bitch! Danitz roared inwardly, spewing curses without end.

He had no way to resist, because he knew exactly how mad a fellow Gehrman Sparrow was.

This was a lunatic who even wanted to hunt pirate admirals!

Danitz revealed a twisted smile. While slightly shaking his head back and forth, he removed his hat and slowly walked toward Deniel.

Around him, one gaze after another swept over, paused for two seconds, then abruptly withdrew.

One drunkard after another retreated like the tide, clearing a broad path as though the sea had been parted.

Seeing their reaction, Danitz felt, amid his terror and worry, that the scene was unexpectedly not bad.

Is this the majesty of a great pirate? Is this what it feels like to be looked up to and watched by others? Damn it, I heard someone say my name. Someone is whispering “Blazing”… Danitz knew he had already been recognized. While walking forward trembling with fear, he let his hands hang down, preparing for battle.

“Danitz? Blazing Danitz!” Within the crowd, Blue Eyes Meath blurted out in astonishment.

One of his subordinates looked over and said excitedly, “Boss, it really is Blazing Danitz! Five thousand five hundred pounds!

    “Should we make a move?”

Meath narrowed his blue eyes, raised his left arm, and fiercely slapped the back of his subordinate’s head.

    “You stupid donkey!

“If Blazing Danitz were a stupid donkey like you, he would have died who knows how many times by now!

“He dares appear like this, so he certainly is not afraid of being attacked! Is there a powerful figure hidden behind him?”

Meath suddenly grew frightened and looked all around.

He suspected Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina Edwards had secretly come to the City of Generosity, Bayam!

Through the gaps between people, he saw a young gentleman standing close to the entrance. The man wore a black double-breasted coat and a half top silk hat. He had black hair, brown eyes, a thin face, and sharp contours.

Without needing any words, Meath’s spiritual intuition told him that this was an extremely terrifying existence.

His high spiritual intuition had caused him many problems before, but it had also allowed him to successfully avoid even more danger!

“Go!” he said in a low voice. Then, using the other patrons as cover, he fled through the bar’s back door just like Danitz had earlier.

Danitz walked to Deniel with his heart pounding. From the stunned and terrified man, he bought two ship tickets to Gargas.

Until he returned along the original path and, under Gehrman Sparrow’s eye signal, walked out of the bar by himself, no one had launched a sudden attack.

Were pirates not supposed to have many desperadoes among them? As expected, a trap thrown together hastily on a sudden impulse is difficult to make work… Abnormality often means something is wrong. Of course, one can also use abnormality to frighten enemies… What a pity… Klein pressed his top hat and followed after Danitz.

At that moment, Danitz was pacing beside a gas streetlamp. Seeing Gehrman Sparrow come out, he forced a smile.

“I can put my scarf and hat back on now, right?

“Haha, what a bunch of cowards!”

“Yes.” Klein did not pause, but quickened his steps toward the other end of the street.

! Danitz’s pupils shrank. He hurriedly followed and asked anxiously, “Why are we suddenly running?”

Without turning his head, Klein said in an even voice, “Do you want to wait there for the Mandated Punishers’ invitation?”

As he spoke, he pulled out a paper figurine and flicked it away. It burned into ash.

Only then did Danitz wake up to the fact that although those cowards did not dare attack him, they absolutely had the courage to report him. If they succeeded, they would even have a chance to claim part of the bounty!

They ran all the way into a quiet alley. Only when he saw Gehrman Sparrow stop did Danitz have the chance to wrap his scarf again and put his hat back on.

“Where are we going now?” Danitz asked, catching his breath.

    Klein glanced at him.

    “To find Elland.”

The corners of Danitz’s mouth immediately twitched twice, and he had the urge to throw a fireball at him.

“To buy tickets to Dyrnius Island,” Klein added, walking out of the alley.

Dyrnius was the first island south of the Rorsted Archipelago.

“…Right. There are also ships to Gargas from there! Now everyone’s attention will be on passenger liners traveling from Bayam to Gargas. Absolutely no one will imagine we would take a detour through Dyrnius Harbor!” Danitz followed, enlightened.

On Tuesday morning, Klein personally disguised Danitz, turning him into a mixed-blood man wearing gold-rimmed glasses.

Although this did not involve the power of a Faceless, it was still at least ten times better than Danitz’s previous self-applied disguises.

They smoothly boarded the ship, preparing to head south to Dyrnius Harbor, a journey that would take roughly ten hours.

    Wooo!

The passenger liner left the harbor and entered the sea.

Under warm sunlight, thin clouds, a blue sky, and a chilly breeze, the hybrid-powered ship quietly traveled over gently rising waves. Its voyage remained smooth until afternoon.

At that moment, Klein was inside the cabin studying one of the contents in the Book of Secrets, while Danitz paced back and forth, imagining how he would brag to his companions later.

All of a sudden, their vision darkened at the same time, as though clouds had drifted over and blocked the sun.

Klein instinctively looked outside and saw that, at some unknown point, a huge pitch-black sailing ship had appeared in the distance. It was nearly a hundred meters long, its canvas sails hung high, and rows of cannon ports lined its sides.

It had not yet approached them, and its direction of travel was offset from theirs, but it still made the surrounding region seem to have gained a black sun.

Danitz’s expression became a complex mix of worship, fear, yearning, and disgust. He hissed softly and murmured as though in a dream:

    “The Black Emperor…”
