    Chapter 208: Miss Messenger

Under the sunlight, the Golden Dream radiated golden brilliance, like a moving treasure.

Danitz stood inside the captain’s cabin, constantly pacing back and forth, trying to remember every single thing that had happened during this period and find clues that could be investigated.

Three days ago, his captain, Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina, announced that she would be doing a study. She might not appear for ten or twenty hours, so the corresponding lessons would all be canceled. Danitz and the others were not surprised by this, because it was something that often happened.

They had been delighted that they did not need to attend class. Aboard the ship, they drank, sang, and held a bonfire party—falling only a little short of setting the Golden Dream itself on fire. They had a very pleasant time.

But as time passed, everyone, including the slow-witted Danitz, gradually sensed that something was wrong. The captain, whose study should have ended within twenty-four hours, had still not appeared on the second day. She had not even asked anyone to send food or light beer to serve as clean water!

After patiently waiting another half day, the crew members, still unable to see Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina, gathered their courage and knocked on the captain’s cabin door. To their terror, there was no response.

Under the leadership of First Mate Bru Walls, the pirates opened the captain’s cabin and discovered that it was unexpectedly empty!

They then searched places such as the collection room as well, but still failed to find Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina.

Based on previous experience, they initially suspected that the captain might have suddenly thought of something and, using one of the many secret arts or a Beyonder technique that imitated another person’s ability, left the Golden Dream in a hurry without having time to leave a message.

Afterward, Danitz and the others tried using methods such as a “spirit-channeling ritual” to contact her, but received no response. All they could do was search the captain’s cabin and other locations for clues while convincing themselves to wait patiently.

After the third day passed, Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina still had not appeared and had sent no reply. The crew began to panic.

“Shit! Did your divination produce anything? Don’t you claim to be an expert in this area?” Danitz irritably turned toward “Flower Bow Tie” Jodeson.

Jodeson, whose black hair was dyed blond, rubbed his temples and said in a rather mellow voice, “Failure. Every divination for finding a person failed.

“But for the moment, one thing can be confirmed: the captain is still alive. We just don’t know where she went.”

First Mate Bru Walls, who had short gray curls, pushed up his monocle and said, “We must seek help. None of the captain’s collections were lost. She didn’t even take some necessary mystical items, which means what happened at the time was very sudden and unexpected.”

“Who should we ask for help?” asked another boatswain, the broad-waisted “Barrel” Daniels, in a hurried voice.

Bru Walls raised the silver-patterned carving knife in his hand before his aquiline nose and said, “Return to the west coast.”

What he meant was that they should seek the Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, which stood behind Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina.

“No. Returning from the pirate paradise to the west coast means crossing the Sonia Sea, passing through either the North Sea or the Berserk Sea, and then sailing across a long stretch of the Misty Sea. The captain cannot wait that long! An accident could happen to her at any time!” “Flower Bow Tie” Jodeson said. “We must find someone who can be contacted quickly and provide help in a short time.”

Danitz had originally wanted to curse, “Shit,” again, but inspiration suddenly came to him.

There was only one person he could contact quickly, and that was Gehrman Sparrow. And this crazy adventurer had never been stingy about showing before him that he was skilled at divination and had a mysterious background!

Perhaps that madman can find the captain. He always manages to accomplish impossible things… Danitz tugged at his collar, feeling the worry and irritation in his heart ease a little.

He straightened his chest, looked around, cleared his throat, and said, “I have someone in mind. I can contact him immediately, and he is extremely skilled at divination…”

Before his voice even finished, “Gourmet” Bru Walls, “Flower Bow Tie” Jodeson, “Iron Sheet,” “Barrel,” and the others all turned toward him at the same time, their eyes red, roaring loudly, “Then hurry up and go!”

“…” Danitz silently withdrew from the captain’s cabin and returned to his own room.

He spread out the stationery, picked up a fountain pen, and habitually followed the captain’s teachings, starting with a greeting and then adding a few lines of pleasantries.

Suddenly, his fountain pen stopped. He felt this was far too polite and wordy, and did not suit the purpose of asking for help.

“Shit!” Danitz cursed himself and tore the sheet of paper away with a brush.

Immediately afterward, he put pen to a new page and wrote:

    “Help!

    “The captain has gone missing!”

“Mm… Although Gehrman Sparrow is a madman who can’t be guessed by normal logic, he probably wouldn’t understand a letter like this either… Shit!” Danitz cursed himself again and tore up the second sheet of paper.

He calmed himself, thought for a few seconds, and lowered the fountain pen for the third time.

This time, he concisely wrote down what had happened before and after the captain’s disappearance, and added the Golden Dream’s current position. Then, in a tactful manner, he asked whether Mr. Gehrman Sparrow could provide some assistance to a collaborator.

“Divination seems to require specific items…” Danitz had just folded the letter when he suddenly realized he had missed something. He hurriedly returned to the captain’s cabin and found a pair of pearl earrings that Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina often wore.

After finishing all this, he took out the notebook in which he recorded various mysticism knowledge, turned to the corresponding page, and, following his previous experience, rather unskillfully arranged the ritual to summon the messenger.

After placing a gold coin on the altar, he took two steps back and recited in ancient Hermes:

    “I!

    “I summon in my name:

“The spirit that wanders about the void; the friendly creature that can be driven; the messenger that belongs solely to Gehrman Sparrow.”

A whining wind swirled and lingered. The candle flames on the altar rapidly expanded, taking on a distinct pallor.

Reinette Tinekerr slowly and unhurriedly emerged. She still wore that gloomy, complicated black dress and carried four identical beautiful heads.

Danitz had thought the messenger would do as she had last time—directly bite the gold coin and the envelope containing the paper and earrings. Who could have known that the four heads in Reinette Tinekerr’s hands would turn on their own, looking around before finally focusing toward the captain’s cabin.

Several seconds later, two of Reinette Tinekerr’s heads finally bit down on the gold coin and the envelope.

Only after this strange messenger vanished did Danitz exhale and wipe his forehead, feeling that he had somehow been under an inexplicable pressure just now.

On Olavi Island, inside a room at another inn.

Klein was just about to have Anderson Hood, who had won quite a bit of money, go buy tickets to Bayam, the City of Generosity, when his spiritual intuition was suddenly touched.

He quickly activated Spirit Vision and saw that his headless messenger, Reinette Tinekerr, had appeared floating beside him at some unknown point. The four heads she carried remained bright and beautiful.

Unlike the skeletal messenger, which I can detect the moment it starts appearing, she had already fully entered the real world before my spiritual intuition was touched… Klein thoughtfully accepted the letter bitten by one of Reinette Tinekerr’s heads.

At the same time, he discovered that Anderson’s spiritual intuition was no worse than his own. The other man reacted almost simultaneously.

“This is… a messenger?” Anderson asked uncertainly, as though he had heard of such things before, but had never truly seen one.

Klein nodded expressionlessly and casually opened the envelope.

Huh, pearl earrings? Klein unfolded the letter in slight surprise.

Beside him, Anderson curiously leaned closer, looking Reinette Tinekerr up and down. Clicking his tongue, he said, “There’s an indescribable bloody beauty to her…”

Before his voice finished, his hands suddenly lifted and clutched his own throat. He squeezed so hard that his tongue stuck out and foam came from his mouth. Reinette Tinekerr, whose necks were empty, showed no further reaction.

Klein turned his head to the side, studied Anderson seriously for a moment, then looked at his messenger and silently muttered a few lines.

Very similar to Miss Sharron’s abilities… Does Miss Messenger belong to the Prisoner pathway? No, I can’t be certain. She is a spirit world creature, so it’s normal for her to be skilled at such things…

Seeing that Anderson was close to failing, Klein finally spoke unhurriedly.

“Enough. He still needs to guide me.”

One of Reinette Tinekerr’s heads turned over. Its crimson eyes stared at Anderson for one second.

Then, each of her heads opened its mouth one after another in orderly fashion:

    “He can…” “be made…” “into a living corpse…” “and still…” “serve…” “as a guide…”

As she spoke, Anderson’s hands finally stopped and left his own neck, which now bore obvious, deep finger marks.

Huff, huff… The Strongest Hunter bent over and retched while gasping for breath.

Klein swiftly skimmed the letter and understood that the sender was Danitz. This “famous great pirate” claimed that Vice Admiral Iceberg had mysteriously disappeared and urgently needed help.

The moment his gaze left the letter, Klein was astonished to discover that Reinette Tinekerr was still there.

This isn’t mystical at all… Aren’t messengers supposed to disappear after delivering the letter, then appear again after being summoned again? Klein considered for a moment and asked in puzzlement, “Do you have something else to do?”

    “Waiting…” “for…” “your…” “reply…” Reinette’s four heads said in sequence.

“How did you know I would definitely reply?” Klein glanced at Anderson, who had still not recovered, confirming that the Strongest Hunter had no way to notice this remark, which did not match Gehrman Sparrow’s persona.

The heads in Reinette’s hands spoke again, one word each, forming a complete sentence:

    “Her…” “disappearance…” “is very…” “strange…”

“How do you know?” For a moment, Klein thought Miss Messenger had secretly read Danitz’s letter.

The heads with simply tied-up pale-golden hair each spat out one word, forming a full sentence:

    “I…” “examined…” “the ship’s…” “condition…”

My messenger also works part-time as a scout? Will Miss Reinette Tinekerr be able to work part-time as muscle in the future too? I just don’t know whether she’ll charge extra… Klein lampooned while thinking and said, “No hurry. I’ll reply later.”

He planned to first go above the gray fog and use Vice Admiral Iceberg Edwina’s earrings to perform a divination.

Reinette Tinekerr said nothing more. Her figure silently vanished.

“Cough…” Anderson finally recovered and straightened, looking at Gehrman Sparrow in disbelief. “Your messenger—your messenger is actually at the level of a demigod!”
